I'm here

I'm here, at an internet cafe at 11:10 pm. The flights were fine and Alex
had a soldier meeting us at the airport who has shown us around, got us to
our hotel, the bank, this cafe - which is fast enough that i saw the
highlights on redsox.com. Apparently Alex's brother met the soldier's
sister at a bar in the US. Anyway, it is very humid and pretty hot but our
hotel fortunately is air conditioned. The streets have open sewers! It's
hard to walk down the street because you have to worry about the cars and
the holes for the sewers. We are staying at Frankie's in Osu and it is
quite the night spot - cars, people in the streets, some sidewalk stands
still open.

In London I had a 9 hour layover so I hopped on the Tube (after getting 8.70
pounds for my US$20!) and got a day pass. I went to the Tower Bridge and
Tower of London, then rode the double decker to Trafalger Square and went to
Big Ben, Westminster Abbey (though not inside, they charge), Westminster
Cathedral (which is really cool because it's still being built and there are
brand new mosaiacs and mosaiacs in progress), and Buckignham Palace as well
as walking by the Queen's Horse Guards and Parliament and such. By the end
of it it was raining and my feet hurt quite a bit so I returned to the
airport. Small tragedy when I went to load my camera and it broke, so I
bought disposables at the duty free store and will have to tote them around
as well as the film.

I realized in Logan that I forgot to bring a roll of toilet paper! So I
rolled up feet and feet in Logan, and I guess when I need it I will have to
be conservative with it.

The internet is so fast and cheap here that I wish I'd brought headphones to
listen to Sox games!
